Grand Cruising on Grand Avenue

For the eleventh continuous year, downtown Escondido, CA is hosting a weekly Friday night cruise. It started on April 2nd and will run through September 24, 2010 from 5-9 pm.

Along an historic 120 year old downtown setting, you can walk among 400+ cars being gazed upon by up to 8,000 pedestrians. Cars from 1973 and older can park along Grand Avenue and the adjacent side streets; strutting their stuff and splashing their chrome for all to see and admire. Of course a great DJ is there broadcasting tunes up and down the streets, plus hosting games for the children and trivia for the adults.

The restaurants and some shops stay open late to accommodate the crowds. Many of you may know that Escondido is right next to the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park. But each Friday night during the summer the streets are filled with a wide variety of other animals – Cudas, Jaguars, Sting Rays, Mustangs and maybe even a Cobra; with most making continuous passes up and down the street. The weather is cool, the food is hot and the cars are “grand”.

This cruise brings out all sorts of cars and people. In the past I have seen car designer and TV star Chip Foose walking the streets checking out the cars, and if you pay attention you might see cars like the late Boyd Coddington’s tribute to the 57 Chevy, Cheezoom or the often featured pro touring styled 1968 Camaro, Bad Penny.

So if you happen to be in the San Diego region this summer, after a day at the beach or the zoo, check out the cars along Grand Avenue in downtown Escondido. Check out their web site - www.cruisingrand.com - for further details.
