Dirt Track Memories

Raceway Park was located at 127th and Western in Blue Island, IL. It was a 1/4 mile asphalt track, and the really dominant driver I remember was Bud Kohler in his Nash.
The first time I went, we stood at the ticket booth. I heard the unholy roar of W.O.T. V8s all in unison and unmuffled, and it was very intriguing to me.
Back in 1962-63 when I was about 14 years old my dad took me to my very first race at a little track in Dover, NH. This track was maybe a 1/8th mile track.
Back in the late 1960s, I used to attend Sunday night dirt track races at Hesston Speedway in Huntington Co., PA. It was on a two-lane road out in a rural area and is still active.
