Many cities and towns seem to have found the perfect formula for holding local car cruises. Find a vacant location in a normally vacant part of downtown, bring in a DJ to spin some tunes and have a few restaurants stay open to serve the crowds and you have all of the ingredients for a successful car cruise. Mix in some cool California weather, plus a delightful shack that sells spectacular kettle corn and that describes “Cruisin' Grand” along Grand Avenue in downtown Escondido, CA.
Escondido might be best known for being the home of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park; but on Friday nights from April through September, it is also home to some other Cougars, Impalas, and Mustangs. The downtown streets come alive with classic cars and trucks of all varieties. They block off some side streets and weekly feature a specific car marquee or local car club.
The first week show was focused on Willy’s and brought out a great collection of cars. Typical weeks bring out over 5,000+ people to see the classics and it didn't hurt that for this first show, nearby Del Mar was hosting the Goodguys Rod and Custom show.
One of the things I like about this particular cruise is the cars don’t just park on the streets but also go out and prowl the asphalt. It is always neat to see a car at cruising height and hear the engine roar through the pipes. On your summer travels keep your eyes open, many spots have local car cruises that you can check out to see the local car scene.
Enjoy the balance of the pictures, and remember the show continues every Friday through the end of September. For more information check out www.cruisingrand.com See ya’ on the road.
