While there is no clear-cut definition of what a muscle truck is, we certainly know one when we see one. And while a pickup with a small block V-8 and an aftermarket exhaust is fun, this 1988 Chevrolet C1500 Prostreet takes things up about ten levels. Fully painted in black with custom pinstriping, its cowl hood, tubbed out bed, SS454 badges, and monster Mickey Thompson tires all alert anyone and everyone that this truck has about as muscle as an Olympic bodybuilder with wheels.
.....
Inside, we find a roll cage with fold-out side bars for ingress and egress. Racing bucket seats, power windows, power locks, and even a center console with a custom cup holder add just a touch of civility to this nightmarish beast. A tilt column is capped off with a billet and leather steering wheel. A dash-mounted Sunpro tachometer complements a set of Equus under-dash gauges, while racing harnesses prepare both driver and passenger for the blast off that is just a pedal stomp away.
Under the hood lies a massive 454 cubic-inch big block V-8 which has had its heads machined and honed, new rings and bearings added to the short block, and an Edelbrock cam and fuel injection combine to make roughly 500 horsepower. All of that power gets funneled through a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission featuring a Monster 2,800 stall with shift kit. From there, a Ford 9 inch rear end housing 4.11 gears sends all those galloping ponies to the tarmac via the aforementioned Mickey Thompsons.
