Description
1 of 398 R codes made! The 351 H.O. replaced the Boss 351 using the same 4 bolt main block, solid lifter cam, aluminum intake and 4300 carb. Also like the Boss it includes a 4-speed, 3.91 gears, competition suspension, a rev limiter, finned valve covers and 15 inch wheels. Extremely rare, only 398 made total, the H.O. wasn't even listed in the showroom brochure. It is VIN #s matching motor and trans, factory colors. Documented with a Marti Report, window sticker and invoice. The car was .....
restored to concourse specs, only a few hundred miles since it was finished, and it has been stored in a bubble. Loaded with 16 options which is verified by the Marti Report. It is featured on NPD 2024 Mustang catalog and the cover of Mustang Times magazine July 2024 along with a 7 page spread. Only 3 owners total. The original owner, his nephew and the 3rd had it restored. There were no more 429 CJs or Boss 351s, the marketing execs decided they needed boost Ford's image with a performance model. This one was built on the last day of production of the R code, and it was discontinued for 1973, this car essentially marked the end of Ford's muscle car era.

EXTERIOR: Wow, what a looker: from the amazing colors and Magnum wheels to the scoops, spoilers and stripes. It is absolutely straight and fits right, no rust or damage. Repainted its original Grabber Blue color, the silver accents put it over the top. Sporty features include the Mach 1 scooped hood, sport mirrors, and spoilers. The front bumper is color matched elastromeric, the rear bumper is rechromed. NOS antenna and hood locks. All the trim, glass and weatherstrips are in excellent shape. It is sitting proud on a set of sparkling 15 inch Magnum 500 wheels wearing reproduction Wide Oval 60 tires.

INTERIOR: White interior, could this car get any better? It's like new and full of options. Reproduction upholstery with the knit inserts was unavailable so the original Ford supplier was tracked down and they provided the material that was seen into the reproduction white upholstery. The original AM 8-track stereo was restored. The factory gauges including tachometer were restored by Instrument Specialties. The Hurst shifter was rechromed instead of being replaced. The bezels around the power window switches are NOS. It has its original deluxe rim blow steering wheel and console. New seat cushions, door panels, carpet, and headliner.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The #s matching engine was rebuilt by Ford High Performance Exchange. Original parts were used including the hard to find exhaust manifolds (NOS), dual point distributor, correct alternator with oversized pulley (unique to Boss 351 and H O.) and carb. Correct finned valve covers like the Boss wore. The air induction system is unique to the H O. and extremely hard to find. The rev limiter luckily was found in the trunk then sent off to be restored before being reinstalled. The original date coded radiator was restored. Reproduction hoses, clamps and radiator cap. Heater core was replaced and an NOS blower motor. It is very complete from the horns and washers being hooked up to the battery being properly secured and the vacuum lines all in place. Every component is restored and correct. It is highly detailed, proper finishes were used, decals were put back in place.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid and the jamb are painted slick. Inside is clean metal with a neatly applied spatter finish. New weatherstrip and stickers. Working trunk light. Complete with original space saver spare with air bottle and jack.

UNDERSIDE: Completely restored underneath to original specs. It the competition suspension which includes staggered shocks. The suspension and steering were completely restored, upgraded with gas shocks. The brake system was completely restored to factory specs except upgraded stainless lines, has disc in front. NOS exhaust system with NOS chrome tips has the correct sound. New fuel system including the tank. Looking up at the motor and starter it is fresh. The wide ratio 4-speed manual is original to this car. The trans, driveshaft and rear have assembly line markings put back on. It has its original 9 inch rear with 3.91 Traction Lock gears and 31 spline axles. The floors are all clean metal painted black.

SERVICE: We inspected the car and lowered the idle and replaced lower control arms.

The owner requested that I mention the car was taken from a bare shell to it's current state by Andrew Knudsen at Conventry Motors. This car has way too many good things going for it. All the stars aligned with its rarity, colors, options, quality, etc. The next owner will be very proud and rightfully so!

I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.
