When it debuted for 1970, the Corvettes new LT-1 engine option (a high-output 350) drew rave reviews from car critics for its powerful, free-revving nature and great soundtrack Fortified with a solid-lifter camshaft, this engine really came alive at higher rpm. 1972 Corvette LT-1 coupe. In addition to being the last year of the front and rear chrome bumpers, 1972 was also the last year for the removeable rear window, grate-style side vents, and an engine with solid lifters. Only 1,741 1972 Corvettes were equipped with the LT-1 option. This Corvette boasts a rock-solid body, underside and birdcage. Originally Elkhart Green, the car was repainted some time ago in Sunflower Yellow. That paint is presentable high-driver quality and we didn't see any stress cracks, big chips or scratches. The chrome bumpers and various other bright trim look fantastic, and the Rally wheels fitted with B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As add to the curb appeal. Swing open a door and you'll think you stepped back in time to 1972. From the T-top liners to the carpet and from the dash top to the seats to the rear cargo area, the fully-restored, all-new interior looks showroom fresh. The audio system looks like the factory AM/FM radio but has modern capabilities including Bluetooth connectivity and a USB input. With its chrome air cleaner and finned aluminum valve covers, the LT-1 V8 has the eye candy to go along with its strong performance. The powertrain is date-code-correct, including the re-stamped engine block, the heads, the 4-speed gearbox and the 3.70:1 rear end. The engine and transmission were rebuilt as needed (new bearings, polished crank, timing chain, clutch, pressure plate, gaskets, etc). No expense was spared to maintain this beautifully-driving Corvette. Manual brakes and steering mean this is a fully-engaging driver's car. Out on the open road, this Corvette LT-1 runs and drives great. It dsnt get much better than cruising on a winding country road with the T tops off on a sunny day and the V8 singing.
