Description
Few cars in history are as instantly recognizable as the wildly unique and utilitarian El Camino. GM's original 'hybrid' combined the best aspects of cars and trucks to create a vehicle unlike almost anything else on the road. Taking that noticeability to another level is this 1971 Chevrolet El Camino SS 454 Tribute. Fully repainted in a deep red accented by twin full-length black racing stripes, this car's hood pins holding down its cowl induction hood along with its polished American Racing .....
wheels signal to onlookers that this is no ordinary cargo hauler.

Inside, we find a clean and stock-looking interior that features an upgraded steering wheel and a set of aftermarket auxiliary gauges situated under the dashboard just ahead of the staple-style shifter. While the stock AM/FM stereo looks correct, there is a modern AM/FM/CD/Aux head unit tucked away in the glove compartment to allow more music choice while not interrupting the throw-back vibe of this interior.

Under the hood is a massive 454 cubic-inch V-8 that Performance Concepts of Forest Lake, Minnesota, rebuilt in 2009. The stock heads remain but were outfitted with new valves, retainers, springs, and guides. We don't have exact cam specs, but the healthy lope indicates this engine was built with power in mind. A single four-barrel Holley carburetor feeds the beast, while a set of long tube headers and FlowMaster exhaust allow this motor to breathe easily and aggressively. That power is routed through a GM Turbo Hydra-Matic 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission before being sent out to a 12-bolt rear. Staggered 245/45ZR-17 front and 255/50ZR-17 rear BFG G-Force T/A tires wrap those beautiful Torq Thrust wheels to give this car the perfect stance from any angle.
