For many muscle car enthusiasts, the 1968-69 Chevelle SS 396 has it all. The shark nose profile, the bulging rear quarters and the upswept rear quarter windows all give the muscle-bound vibe, while those massive valve covers under the hood back up the Chevelles powerful presence. Offered here is a gorgeous 1969 Chevelle SS 396 that has amassed less than 12,000 miles since it left the dealership's showroom back in 1969. From top to bottom and front to back, this boulevard bruiser must be seen .....
and driven to be believed. After its early days as a drag racer, this Chevelle SS was put away in proper storage for decades before being recommissioned to once again thrill its owner. Take a good look at this Chevelle and you'll notice that the all-original body panels as well as the trunk and underside are straight, clean and rock solid. The car looks incredible in its original and very rare hue of Burnished Brown. The various chrome and stainless-steel trim pieces are brilliant as well and a set of American Racing wheels wearing B.F. Goodrich Radial T/As rounds out the SS' massive head-turning factor. The interior is all original except for the carpet and door panels, and its amazing condition is a testament to the car's extremely low mileage. Rather than the boring bench seat, this car features the optional buckets and console, the latter with the iconic Staple shifter for the TH400 automatic. This car also has the optional special instrumentation that includes the Tic Toc Tach. Under the hood, rather than the base 325-horsepower V8 that the car came with (long gone to the early days of this Chevelle's life as a drag car) now resides the L78 version of the 396. The L78 was very rare and was factory rated -- or should we say underrated -- at 375 horsepower. Actual output, given its strong performance, was likely closer to 425-450 horses. This one also sports a performance cam, a Holley 850 double-pumper carb sitting atop a Winters intake, Flowmaster headers and Flowmaster mufflers. All that power runs through the TH400 to the factory 3.73-geared 12 bolt rear end. This powerhouse sounds awesome and has no problem pinning you back in the seat when you step into it. The muscle-bound SS is surprisingly easy to handle thanks to the power steering, power front disc brakes (upgraded to drilled/slotted rotors) and factory beefed-up F41 suspension. As you would imagine, this SS is an absolute blast to drive. For more information or to schedule time to see this sensational SS, just give us a call at 603-627-5595.
