Featured in the January 2007 issue of Hot VW's magazine, this 1966 Volkswagen Beetle combines classic 1950s styling elements with modern performance upgrades. The Tangerine Orange paint amplifies its modified profile, while the aluminum BRM Speedwell 15-inch alloys create an aggressive track-ready appearance. The unique W-style decklid and bullet-style turn signals showcase its 1957 body modifications. Firestone F-560 135R15 front tires and Yokohama Avid Touring 215/65R15 rear tires plant this .....
machine firmly on the pavement. The black ragtop adds a classic finishing touch to this custom build.
The tan vinyl interior reflects a focused, performance-oriented design. Racing-inspired bucket seats with Simpson harnesses lead to a matching rear bench. A custom rollcage with door bars integrates seamlessly into the footwells. The EMPI shifter takes center stage, while the dash-mounted oil temperature, pressure, and boost gauges keep tabs on vital statistics. A large tachometer with shift light dominates the view, complemented by black rubber floor mats and tinted plexiglass sun visor.
The 2387cc flat-four VW engine, bored and stroked for maximum output, pushes power through a 4-speed manual transmission. A strategically placed turbocharger mounted near the rear bumper feeds compressed air through direct piping to dual throttle bodies. The fuel injection system utilizes AN lines and fittings throughout. Four-wheel disc brakes provide superior stopping ability, while the VW independent suspension maintains stability at all speeds. This motor spins freely to 8,000 RPM, where boost peaks at 12 PSI.
