This 1965 Shelby Daytona Factory Five Type 65 coupe is a sleek build with all the best components to make this new car look truly vintage. But while this has an accurate style, right down to the side pipes, you'll also start to notice well-integrated upgrades. The V8 is a fuel-injected and supercharged powerhouse. Plus, there's a five-speed, full competition chassis, and even air conditioning!
The way the light rolls so smoothly across the quality Factory Five panels reminds you of .....
why Peter Brock and Carroll Shelby created this car in the first place. The Daytona Coupe was all about re-skinning the Cobra to make it cheat the wind and go faster. So when you want a proper Daytona, you need the details to be right. That includes deep-diving hood aerodynamics, fire-breathing side pipes, a big back window, a tall spoiler, and a flat rear end (the real secret to why this cheats the wind.) A deep blue with racing stripes laid on top is truly part of this iconic style. So it's great to see it looking so bright, and there's even a hint of metallic to get extra attention. It's all part of what you get on a build that's believed to have under 13k miles on it. There's a beautiful race-ready feeling, right down to the details, like the competition-style gas cap and Halibrand-style wheels. But you'll also notice that this one wants to be street-able. Good lighting, proper turn signals, and a real rear hatch are useful features. We're not suggesting this hardcore coupe is daily driver material, but it also feels nice to know it gets itself to the tack day without a trailer and support team.
The interior has an instant race-ready attitude with a touch of refinement. Low-back bucket seats, racing lap belts, Plexi slider side windows, crisp AutoMeter gauges, and a wood-rimmed Cobra steering wheel really get the vintage feeling right. It even still has the Cobra-correct forward-leaning gearstick. It's all done in a clean presentation that reminds you how Factory Five knows how to produce great Cobra pieces... even for the rare coupes. And because this is not a roadster, the addition of air conditioning is essential to keeping your day out feeling fun and comfortable.
While the design is a legendary classic, when you tilt the hood forward, you'll see a much more modern powerhouse. The base is a Ford fuel-injected 5.0-liter V8, but what really catches your eye is the Vortech supercharger that gives this supercar-level power. In fact, we have a dyno sheet showing 430 horsepower at the rear wheels! A build like this also needs good supporting components, and so you have Trick Flow valve covers, an Optima red top battery mounted low, a serpentine belt system, and an aluminum radiator with an electric fan. This fires up eagerly as the header-fed side pipes make a terrific growl. Making sure the power gets to the ground is a strong five-speed manual transmission. These Daytonas have the same race-bred suspension as the Cobra. So you have a strong tubular chassis, independent A-arm front suspension, front disc brakes, and modern sport tires.
The sale comes complete with the dyno sheet and the Factory Five assembly manual. This is a legendary track dominator that was built to uphold its legacy properly.
