Hop inside this two-seater, and you're treated to a Spartan-yet-comfortable interior featuring soft-yet-supportive black vinyl, four-point racing harnesses, and a three-point wood-rimmed steering wheel that offers a splash of contrasting color to liven up the otherwise utilitarian setup. A five-pod gauge cluster sits center-mount on the dashboard while a single oil pressure gauge is offset to the left of the steering column. Under the signature front-hinged hood, we find a version of Ford's venerable 302 cubic inch V-8 engine, built by Midland Machine in Midland, North Carolina, in 2016. Featuring aluminum cylinder heads, a hydraulic cam, roller rockers, a single four-barrel 650 cfm Holley carburetor, and a set of long tube headers that lead to those bellowing side pipes, this powertrain goes a long way in living up to the legend. That power is routed through a T5 five-speed manual transmission before being sent out to a set of seventeen-inch wheels shod in massive 315/35ZR-17 rear Mickey Thompson tires, while a narrower set of 235/45R-17 units handling steering duties up front.
This 1965 Shelby Cobra Backdraft Racing Edition benefits from being built more than thirty years after the original car it is modeled after. A fully independent front and rear suspension borrowed from a BMW 3-Series, along with a set of four-wheel power disc brakes, helps this car perform exquisitely when turning or stopping.
