The United States was a top market for the SL during the 1980s. We are selling this car for the estate. Mr. Edwards purchased the car in 2022 and passed shortly there after, It has been garaged since.
This example was made in Mercedes' Sindelfingen, Germany factory in April 1988. It came with the following options – outside temperature indicator; .....
power and heated sideview mirrors, Becker stereo; power antenna; sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors; anti-theft system; air-conditioning; folding armrests; and heat-insulating glass.
Dressed in Signal Red with a Black fabric soft-top (code 740) and a body-colored hardtop. The car's paint and trim are in overall very good order showing minor imperfections. The car's bodywork is straight and solid. The engine bay is clean while the cargo area is in good shape. The chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body and there are foglights. Soft top is in very good condition, hard top has some scratches from storage.
This big Benz rolls on Delium Velocita radials, size 225/45ZR17 at all four corners. Each one is mounted on a full-disc alloy wheel. The wheels and tires are all in very good order. Overall this 560AL is very nice driver with minor cosmetic imperfections at close range.
Under the hood is a 5.6L SOHC V-8 engine with Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection, the largest displacement motor the company exported to the United States, tachometer is inop. Backing this motor is a 4G-TRONIC four-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the car's Anthracite leather interior (code 271) is in overall very good order. The bucket seats are in overall very good order while the wear on the driver's side outer bolster, is a testament to the previous owner's enjoyment. The matching carpet and gray headliner are in similar fine form. The usual, big, four-spoke steering wheel faces the driver. The instrument panel, with its VDO gauges, is in satisfactory order while the inner door panels are in very good order. The center console, with its shift lever, are in good, original form. A modern Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo with CD player is in the dash.
Convertible competition to this Mercedes in 1988 included Chevrolet's Corvette, Excalibur's Series V Phaeton, Jaguar's XJ-S and Stutz's Bearcat II.
