SS drag terror was from Sonoma, California originally and was raced in that area. It has run a 9.67 quarter and is obviously a track-only car. There have only been 3 or 4 passes on this fresh build. The body and paint are immaculate and testament to the overall incredibly high quality of the car. The body was rock solid to start with -- even the original, mint rear quarters are still on the car -- and was treated to a high-quality respray in the correct Black Cherry hue. It is all steel except the hood, trunk and bumpers which are fiberglass and the windows are now Lexan. An additional paint matched hood with a scoop goes with the car. The underside is so clean that you could eat lasagna off of the floor pans and frame. Under that bulging cowl hood scoop is a 540 cubic-inch Merlin big block with the best of everything. Highlights include a 14.2:1 compression ratio, Dart Pro 1 heads, Eagle H beam rods, a Callies crankshaft, Manley valves, Comp Cams camshaft, Crane roller rockers with Isky roller lifters, Moroso oil pan, MSD Crank Trigger, Edelbrock Super Victor intake manifold, Holley 1050 Dominator carburetor and Lemons step headers. The transmission consists of a TH 400 with an A-1 8-inch converter and transmission brake, JW SFI bellhousing and transmission blanket and a PST 4-inch aluminum drive shaft with 1350 U-Joints. Dyno pulls show the big block bruiser cranking out 881 horsepower. Other key components include Chris Alston Chassis Works 4-link back half frame kit, Fab 9 rear housing, mild steel 14-point roll cage kit (8.50 certified), rack and pinion steering, 4.10 Pro Gears, Strange Engineering center housing, pinion support and yoke, Mark Williams 35-spline spool and axles with drive studs, 4-wheel disc brakes with 4-piston calipers, Global West upper control arms and 4 new Hoosier tires mounted on Weld wheels. Hand-written notes further attest to all the high-end components that were used in the build, while three time slips attest to the car's impressive capability on the track. Beautiful enough to command respect at a car show and quick enough to garner respect at the track, this Chevelle SS dragster is ready to thrill its next fortunate owner.
