This 1966 Ford Mustang convertible is a true Survivor car that must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated. Built in Metuchen, New Jersey and shipped to Central Motor Company in Bel Air, Maryland in November of 1965, it wasn't on the lot a week before it was bought by a Mr. Roberts. Given the sharp color scheme and desirable options that were specified on this car, we can see why this Mustang convertible didn't last long at the dealership. Mr. Roberts owned the car until early 2001, when .....
it was sold to the second owner. The Mustang has only had three owners in total. Boasting jus 43,943 original miles and its 90% original factory finish in Candy Apple Red over the all original body panels, this Mustang drop top is a rare find indeed. Even the Parchment convertible top and its clear rear window are the same as those the car had when it rolled off of the assembly line. That impressive body is nicely accented with the original Spinner style wheel covers that are now fitted with modern radial tires. Inside, the Parchment upholstery is original and also in amazing condition, as are the dash, door panels and carpet. Providing cool comfort on those hot summer days is the optional air conditioning. Oddly, the car wasn't optioned with a radio, but given the fantastic soundtrack provided by the high-output V8 engine and its dual exhaust, we doubt it'll be missed. Under the hood, the Mustang retains its original and feisty 289 A-code V8 engine. That code signifies higher compression along with a 4-barrel intake and dual exhaust upgrades compared to the base 289 2-barrel V8. Those horses run to the rear tires via a 3-speed manual transmission, which adds to the fun of this spirited 'stang. Manual brakes (upgraded to front discs) and manual steering make for an engaging drive. With its combination of very low mileage, impressive original condition and desirable options, we don't expect to have this classic Mustang convertible too long. Note that the car also comes with all the original supporting documentation. And remember, they're only original once.
