Description
Details about our available 1966 Excalibur Series I:
For sale at the St. Louis Car Museum is a rare, 1966 Excalibur SSK Series I Roadster finished in a sharp combination of Red paint over Black vinyl interior. This 2 owner Neoclassic is powered by a Chevrolet small block 327ci V8 Turbo Jet engine that produces a stout 300 horsepower mated to the desirable Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. This specific Excalibur Roadster features no doors, bicycle fenders, dual side pipe exhaust, Lucas .....
spotlight, Hurst shifter, front disc brakes, chrome bumpers, machine-turned dash, leather hood strap, full dash instrumentation with clock, rear-mounted spare tire, soft top, tonneau cover and 15” chrome wire spoke wheels wrapped in Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires measuring 215/75R15. These early Excaliburs are highly collectible as they were built for speed and performance, and only produced from 1965-1969. Of the 359 total Series I no-door Roadsters, standard Roadsters with doors & running boards, and Phaetons being made, this example represents one of only 97 No-Door Roadsters ever built. This is chassis #1051, representing the 51st SSK Series I manufactured!

Records provided indicate that this particular Excalibur Roadster was originally sold to the 3M Corporation in October 1965 before new ownership to Lebanon, New York the following year. It would sell again to a doctor in Arlington, VA in the summer of 1967 and stay in his possession until 1990. The next owner from Bethesda, MD purchased this Excalibur in 1990 with receipts and work orders documenting mileage and repairs from 1990 to 2003 when he unfortunately passed away and left the car to his daughter. She would maintain ownership until 2009 keeping the vehicle in great shape while only driving it sparingly. Its current owner for the past 14 years completed some early repair work in 2009-2010 that included a new Edelbrock carburetor, spark plug set, air filter and voltage regulator. Showing only 10,419 miles on the odometer it is clear to see this car was cared for extremely well for an original survivor. In preparation for sale in 2023, this beautiful roadster received replacement front calipers, front brake pads, a new water pump, fuel filter, engine oil & filter, and installed a fresh Centerforce clutch kit, throw-out bearing, flywheel, clutch master cylinder, and clutch slave hose kit all to ensure this vehicle is 100% road worthy and ready to continue turning heads for many years to come!

These are hard-to-find Excaliburs, pure excitement to drive, and will forever be on the must-have list for astute collectors! They were never kit cars and are rightfully recognized by the Antique Automobile Club of America as factory production vehicles. Contact Jon Faust at (314)993-1330 to schedule a test drive.

History of Excalibur Vehicles:
The original Excalibur was the brainchild of Studebaker's Brooks Stevens, who took inspiration from the famous Mercedes-Benz SSK and decided to make a more modern interpretation. Originally designed in 1964 over a Studebaker chassis with their 289ci V8, Studebaker's unfortunate demise forced the project in a different direction and connections ultimately landed the car with Corvette power. Considering the car's 2100 pounds and optional 350 horsepower V8 mated to a 4-speed manual, the car was sensationally quick, able to get to 60 mph in just over five seconds, and with a top speed of 160mph! Prices started at $7500, which all but eliminated the average man from buying a new one. Their neo-classical style and strong performance have endured as one of the most stylish performance cars of the 1960s, offering a very unique opportunity for collectors to own a special antique automobile!
